SOS Ministries

SOS Ministries, founded in 2002, is a Christian non-profit organization which seeks to provide humanitarian aid and biblical training to all those in need. Shannon Hurley, the founder, began SOS after seeing the overwhelming physical and spiritual needs of the Ugandan people. These needs primarily are a result of the horrific reign of Idi Amin in the 70’s and the devastating results of the AIDS epidemic.

Shannon Hurley was introduced to the country of Uganda in 1995 after traveling to the country of Kenya with a group of ten other volunteers on a short-term missions trip. While in Kenya, he met a Kenyan missionary to Uganda. During this visit Shannon went with ten others through the country of Uganda.

This trip made a tremendous impact on Shannon. His heart was moved by the love and joy of the Ugandan people. In January 2002, Shannon returned to the beloved country. The purpose of his visit was to see what opportunities he might have for the future. Consequently, SOS Ministries was born.

Sufficiency of Scripture Ministries exists solely for the purpose of helping the people of Uganda. The board of directors of this ministry is seeking to raise funds specifically given directly to help in the mission efforts in Uganda. This ministry is a result of the founder and many others surrendering their lives and financial resources for the mission of this organization.

The needs of the country of Uganda far surpass the resources of an individual, but the opportunity presented to SOS will have a far surpassing influence over more than just one person. Sufficiency of Scripture Ministries is not just an organization; it is a group of individuals committed to loving people.

The prospect given to SOS Ministries is unfathomable. To some extent, SOS has the opportunity to impact up to nine million people. The sphere of influence reaches throughout the whole country of Uganda, whether it is in schools, universities, or churches.

Due to the invitation by the Church of Uganda and the providential orchestration of God, this opportunity has transpired. Members of SOS have been invited to work alongside one of the most influential men within the whole country, the archbishop of the Church of Uganda. This man is a very godly man who desires to see revival take place within the church. He sees this taking place through the preaching and teaching of God¹s Word. The archbishop Livingstone said, “The greatest need in the country of Uganda is the word of God.” In light of this, he has given SOS the responsibility to work with schools, universities, and churches to train and build up the church in the Word of God.
