Pastor Bynum of Juanita Bynum Ministries was born January 16, 1959.
She is a Pentecostal televangelist, author, actress and gospel singer. Bynum refers to herself as "Dr. Bynum" on her website.
Her critics claim (complain) there is no evidence of an earned doctorate degree available.
Juanita was born in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas and Katherine Bynum. Throughout her childhood, she attended weekly services with her family at their home church, St. Luke Church of God in Christ.
Bynum attended Saints Academy Church of God in Christ High School in Lexington, Mississippi. The Bynum family also lived in Miami, Florida for a two-year period from 1978-1980, and in New York City from 1985-1992.
Although Juanita Bynum had been preaching since her teenage years, it was not until the 1990s that she became internationally known.
Bishop T.D. Jakes invited Bynum to attend one of his singles conferences in 1996, where she rose from attendee to speaker in two years.
In that conference in 1998, she preached a sermon titled "No More Sheets," telling single and unhappily married women how to break free of sexual problems, and also spoke very openly about her first marriage, and her own sexual promiscuity and sexual struggles.
This sermon catapulted her into popularity. Ever since, Bynum's passionate sermons have generated demand for many Christian conferences and events.
On July 22, 2002, in a private ceremony Juanita Bynum wed Bishop Thomas Wesley Weeks III, a former bishop in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. They had another highly elaborate marriage ceremony in April 2003, Trinity Broadcasting Network televised that ceremony.
