SR. Pastor Young of Ed Young Ministries pastored in North and South Carolina until 1978.

He then moved to Houston, Texas, to became the pastor at Second Baptist Church where he continues to pastor today.

The congregation has grown from 2,000 members in 1978 to over 48,000 members at five church locations presently.

His name is shared by another well-known mega church pastor, his son, who resides in the state of Texas also and has affiliations with the Southern Baptist Convention too.

The father is Homer Edwin Young, pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Houston, Texas. He is the father of three sons, Ed, Ben (associate pastor at Second Baptist), and Cliff (lead singer of Caedmon's Call).

The son Edwin Barry Young, is pastor of Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. He played college basketball at Florida State University but left to concentrate on becoming a minister.

Since both father and son have chosen to go by the name Ed, Ed Young Senior is referred to in some circles as Dr. Young as he holds a doctorate degree.

Dr. Ed Young was born on August 11, 1936, in Laurel, Mississippi.

On June 28, 1959, he married Jo Beth Landrum.
