China Ministries

China Ministries is better known as China Outreach Ministries. It is an incorporated, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which is committed to the historic, evangelical, Christian faith. COM has no official ties to any denomination or other Christian organization, but exists to serve the whole body of Christ.

They focus their ministry on "Giving Christ to China's Future Leaders" by showing them the love of Christ in practical ways; by leading them to faith in Christ; by discipling, training and mentoring them in Christian faith; and by equipping them to minister creatively to other Chinese people. COM is a member of the ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability).

China Outreach Ministries (COM) began in London in the 1950s under the name Chinese Overseas Christian Mission (COCM) , by the initiative of Rev. Stephen Wang, a pastor from China. Then in 1959, Fred and Frances Pyke, two long-time American missionaries to China, organized COCM/USA.

During the 1960s, COCM/UK and COCM/USA began operating as separate organizations. Under the leadership of Rev. Donald McIntosh, COCM/USA began raising funds to support Christian radio broadcasts into China through the programming of Far East Broadcasting Co., and later through Trans World Radio.

In 1988, with the influx of thousands of Mainland Chinese graduate students and scholars to U.S. and Canadian campuses, COM began to shift its primary focus to campus ministry in North America. Under the direction of President Emeritus, Rev. Earnest Hummer, COM began that year to place staff on major campuses with large numbers of such students. In 1993, COCM/USA changed its name to China Outreach Ministries. In 2002, Glen Osborn became president of COM.

COM's campus staff has grown to 44 members (13 Chinese and 31 Americans) who have developed such multifaceted ministries as friendship evangelism, hospitality, Bible studies, English language classes, pastoral training, translation, publishing, and an annual Mainland Chinese Labor Day Discipleship Retreat (held at a beautiful camp east of Pittsburgh).

China Outreach Ministries is a Christian mission organization which offers Christ to China's future leaders, primarily those studying outside of China, by:

* Showing them the love of Christ in practical ways.
* Leading them to faith in Christ.
* Discipling, training and mentoring them in Christian faith.
* Equipping them to minister creatively to other Chinese people.
