CBH Ministries
CBH Ministries receives about 27,557 U.S. visitors per month and is committed to reaching kids and their families with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping them be better equipped to live according to the the truth of God's Word. CBH is supported by friends who share their vision and value the resources they provide.
CBH, which has been in ministry for more than 65 years, is a media ministry targeting kids ages six to twelve with Bible-based materials. CBH produces radio programs, print materials and web-based media to teach kids the message of Jesus Christ.
CBH stands for Children’s Bible Hour. Back in 1942, a young girl remarked to her uncle that, although there were Christian broadcasts for adults, there were none for kids. Her uncle, Rev. Gil Cosselman, agreed, and he brought together three other pastors to talk about the possibility of starting a radio ministry for kids. After a lot of praying, planning and hard work the committee created the concept for Children’s Bible Hour, a 60-minute weekly program of song and story that would present the message of Jesus Christ to kids.
Charlie Vandermeer, known as "Uncle" Charlie is not Executive Director anymore, Uncle Charlie keeps VERY busy! With his new title, Ambassador-at-Large, he travels to many school assemblies, camps and anywhere else he can find kids–but never without his wooden friend “Wally”! He also reads the stories on the Keys for Kids radio program and his voice is heard on CBH's fifteen-minute Storytime program.
Uncle Charlie been here at CBH just about all his life except for college. When he was nine years old he was picked out of the studio audience of a live Children's Bible Hour program to answer some questions. And that was the start of his radio career. The summer after Mr. Vandermeer graduated from college (1956) he got married and started full-time at CBH.
As mentioned above, Mr. Vandermeer stepped down as director in 1999 and now serves as "Ambassador at Large." He records the Keys for Kids programs, puts new closings on the Classic CBH and Storytime programs, answers lots of letters and also does programs in churches and schools, etc., with a presentation of ventriloquism and Gospel magic. Mr. and Mrs. Vandermeer adopted three children who are now all grown up and they have 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
